If you’re learning Chinese, you’ve probably seen both 找 (zhǎo) and 找到 (zhǎodào) used when someone is talking about looking for or finding something. 

They look similar, but they’re not the same!

🟡 找 (zhǎo) = to look for

  • Use  (zhǎo) when you are in the process of looking for something. You haven’t found it yet — you’re still searching.
  • 🧠 Think of it as the action of searching.


🟡 找到 (zhǎodào) = to find

  • Use 找到 (zhǎodào) when you already found the thing you were looking for. It shows a result — the search was successful.
  • 🧠 Think of it as the result of looking.
